How to Measure a Barrel Pattern - WPRA Standard
How to Measure a Barrel Pattern

Want to practice barrel racing with your horse, but you are not sure how far apart the barrels should be? Here is how to set up the WPRA Standard Barrel Pattern.

Here's How:

  • 1.Measure your arena. The standard arena size is based on an arena that is 300 feet long, 140 feet wide with an entrance on one end.
  • 2.Roll in the barrels and start measuring from the entrance gate.
  • 3.The gate entrance should 20 feet wide.
  • 4.The timer line is 45 feet from the entrance and parallel to the entrance fence.
  • 5.The first two barrels are 60 feet out from the timer line.
  • 6.The first two barrels are at least 18 feet from the fence.
  • 7.The first two barrels are 90 feet apart from each other.
  • 8.The third barrel is 105 feet from the first two barrels and centered between them.
  • 9.The third barrel is at least 36 feet from the back fence.
